Frequently Asked Questions

Is psychological therapy for me?

Life can be challenging, and everyone deserves support to navigate its ups and downs. Therapy is for anyone seeking to improve their mental health, gain clarity, or work through personal struggles. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, facing a specific issue like anxiety or depression, or simply want to better understand yourself, therapy provides a safe and non-judgemental space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. It’s a space to grow, heal, and build resilience at your own pace. If you’re wondering whether therapy is right for you, consider this your sign to take the first step—because your mental health matters.

How many sessions will I need?

The total number of sessions and the frequency of sessions depends on your individual situation and therapy goals. This will be discussed during your initial consultation where a therapy plan is developed. This plan will be regularly reviewed during the course of treatment.

Do I need a referral?

You do not need a referral to seek psychological treatment. However, if you are wanting to receive rebates from Medicare, please speak to your GP about preparing a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). More information can be found on the “Fees and Rebates” page.

Are the sessions confidential?

Yes, psychology sessions are confidential with a few exceptions as started in the APS (Australian Psychological Society) Code of Ethics:

  • If you give the psychologist permission to share information with another party.

  • If you have a referral from your GP, progress reports need to be shared throughout treatment to keep you GP informed.

  • Duty of care obligations dictate that if you are at risk of hurting yourself or another person, or being hurt by another person, an appropriate strengths based safety plan would be developed . This plan may include contacting a clients family, emergency services or other supports as needed.

  • Your notes can be subpoenaed by a court of law.

Can parents be involved in sessions for adolescents?

Yes, however the level of involvement varies with each individual client and will be discussed as part of treatment planning. As mentioned above information pertaining to risk concerns would be shared as part of the psychologists duty of care obligations.

Where is my information stored?

Client information is stored on software called Halaxy which uses first-class security and confidentiality practices. More information can be found on the Halaxy website

Do you conduct cognitive and educational assessments?
